Poetry: PHOSPHENE –Jon Ruseski

PHOSPHENE

Raised by Saturn and his goats

then feathers filled my head
and the echo lasted

the rest has been
turning knobs

spring still comes
with mostly the same feelings

reaching for a handful
I could forget

water and language
turns in me

with the sad violence
of anything

at least your mind doesn’t always work

though the gloss is out there
at volume

Jon Ruseski is the author of the chapbook Neon Clouds (Factory Hollow Press, 2015). His poems have appeared in jubilat, Queen Mob’s Teahouse, Sixth Finch and Ilk, among others. He lives in Northampton, MA.
