Poetry: my gold badge –Malcolm Miller

my gold badge

I have long wished for a new authority
a badge of gold
that gives me license
to arrest people
anywhere anytime anyplace

I would arrest people with loud
empty mouths and people
who do not note the beauty
of the sky and trees
I would arrest people who are hardly there

I would do a job of work
I am telling you
and I would make the earth
a better place
for gold and more gold

Malcolm Miller (1930-2014) was born in Salem, Massachusetts, served in the United States Navy, and graduated from McGill University. He was the author of sixty-one books of poetry.
